The little town of
Tréguier—2947 inhabitants—looks out over the rivers Jaudy and Guindy. Its rich past is everywhere in evidence: in its half-timbered houses, narrow, winding streets and Gothic cathedral. Ancient capital of Trégor province, former Episcopal see, Tréguier —officially listed as a Petite cite de caractère— is also famed for its local saint, Saint Yves, and its celebrated men of letters such as Ernest Renan, Anatole Le Braz and Henri Pollès.
St Tugdual CathedralAcknowledged to be one of the finest cathedrals in Armorica, the church was dedicated to St Tugdual in the 10th century Its impressive 200-foot high spire soars over the town.
St Yves ChurchBuilt on the site of the former chapel of Kermartin Manor, which belonged to the family of St Yves, the church houses a remarkable painting depicting the testament of St Yves, and ancient statuary, including a group of polychrome wood figures representing "St Yves between the rich man and the poor man". You will also find a fine 17th-century pulpit.
Outside the church is an interesting 15th-century granite altar under which pilgrims would crawl on bended knees to have their wishes granted.
PlougrescantThe Pointe de Plougrescant, the northernmost headland in Brittany, stands amidst bewitching natural scenery. Its 10 miles of coast offer an outstanding variety of beaches, creeks, rocky shores and hiking trails set in an astonishing landscape of jagged cliffs, fringed by reefs and bristling with rocky hillocks.
